The Director’s Perspective: A Vision Beyond Imagination
A Conversation in Florida
I first conceived of Putting For Miracles long before a pivotal trip to Florida. Yet, I never expected it to become what it is today. Later, the memory of standing in Florida with Travis Miller remains vivid. Then he looked at me and made a bold prediction. He said this event would eventually raise tens of thousands of dollars for the local hospital. At the time, I honestly could not fathom that number. Still, it felt like an impossible dream. However, how could a simple game of miniature golf do all that?
Watching the Community Rise
Our inaugural tournament launched in 2022. Every single year since then, I find myself in absolute awe of the process. The days leading up to the event are a whirlwind. As a result, tournament day overflows with incredible community spirit. Local sponsors eagerly step up to help. Vendors arrive early to set up their tents. Players bring unmatched energy to the course. Through it all, my dedicated team stands right behind me to make it happen. It is profoundly humbling to witness.
The Moment That Gets Me Every Time
But one specific moment always catches me off guard. Every tournament kicks off with a brief introduction. I explain the flow of the day. I also remind everyone exactly why we are gathered together. I stand up to speak and look out at the massive crowd. The sheer magnitude of what we built together washes over me. I see that vast sea of supporters. I realize Travis’s prediction didn’t just come true. It exceeded all our expectations. This realization makes speaking an absolute challenge. I rarely get through that welcome speech without my eyes watering.
This is more than just a fundraiser. It is a beautiful testament to a caring community. Thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality.
